🌍 Geography

Koh Sdach is the centerpiece of a 12-island archipelago in Koh Kong Province. Situated between the mainland and the open sea, the island is home to a bustling, colorful fishing village on one side and quiet, rocky shores on the other. Its location makes it a prime gateway to some of the most untouched coral reefs in Cambodia.

🌤️ Climate

  • Dry Season (Nov – May): The golden window for visitors. The seas are calm and crystal clear, making it perfect for snorkeling and diving.
  • Rainy Season (Jun – Oct): The island takes on a peaceful, moody beauty. While there are fewer tourists, the tropical greenery becomes incredibly lush and the local life continues its steady rhythm.

🗺️ How to Get There

Getting to this remote getaway is part of the adventure:

  • By Road: From Phnom Penh or Sihanoukville, take a private taxi to the Poi Yopon Pier in Kirisakor (approx. 4.5–5 hours).
  • By Boat: Once at the pier, a quick 5-minute local boat ride will ferry you across the narrow channel to the island.

🚲 Getting Around

  • Walking: The village is a maze of narrow, charming wooden walkways and alleys—perfect for exploring on foot.
  • Long-tail Boat: Essential for “island hopping.” Hire a local boatman to take you to the nearby deserted islands like Koh Smach or Koh Totang.
  • Motorbike: You can rent a moto-taxi to zip across the island’s few inland paths.

🏛️ What to Do

  • Snorkeling & Scuba Diving: Explore some of Cambodia’s healthiest coral reefs, teeming with colorful fish and sea life.
  • Island Hopping: Spend a day on a “secret” white-sand beach on one of the uninhabited neighboring islands.
  • Fisherman’s Life: Walk through the village at sunrise or sunset to watch the local fleet bring in the daily catch of fresh crab and squid.
  • Seafood Feasts: Dine at a seaside shack where the seafood goes from the ocean to your plate in hours.
  • Eco-Resorts: Stay in a sustainable bungalow and fall asleep to the sound of the waves.
